Slipstreaming SharePoint 2010 with SP1 and CUs

You may want to include the Service Pack 1 and CUs into the installation process of a new environment you are building. As it is recommended for a SharePoint Server 2010 installation to install the SharePoint Foundation SP1 and the SharePoint Server SP1 bits (http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blog/Pages/BlogPost.aspx?pID=984) you should consider integrate both of them into your installation.

How to install SP1 and Cu during installation:

Download the SharePoint Foundation SP1 bits (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2460058) and extract the files from this package by running:

sharepointfoundation2010sp1-kb2460058-x64-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract:<your directory>

Download the SharePoint Server SP1 bits (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2460045) and extract the files from this package by running:

officeserver2010sp1-kb2460045-x64-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract:<your directory>

Don’t forget the CUs. Use these links http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2536599 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2553931.

And finally copy all of these extracted files into the “Updates” folder of your SharePoint Server 2010 RTM bits. The folder is empty default, but I found just one txt file with the text

“Any patches placed in this folder will be applied during initial install.”

Now you can start the installation. When you’re finished you should be able to see the Updated number of the SharePoint version on Central Administration which indicates that service pack 1 and CU are installed. Cool:)
