Slipstreaming SharePoint 2010 with SP1 and CUs

You may want to include the Service Pack 1 and CUs into the installation process of a new environment you are building
. As it is recommended for a SharePoint Server 2010 installation to install the SharePoint Foundation SP1 and the SharePoint Server SP1 bits (http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blog/Pages/BlogPost.aspx?pID=984) you should consider integrate both of them into your installation.

How to install SP1 and Cu during installation:

Download the SharePoint Foundation SP1 bits (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2460058) and extract the files from this package by running:

sharepointfoundation2010sp1-kb2460058-x64-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract:<your directory>

Download the SharePoint Server SP1 bits (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2460045) and extract the files from this package by running:

officeserver2010sp1-kb2460045-x64-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract:<your directory>

Don’t forget the CUs

. Use these links http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2536599 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2553931
.

And finally copy all of these extracted files into the “Updates” folder of your SharePoint Server 2010 RTM bits. The folder is empty default, but I found just one txt file with the text

“Any patches placed in this folder will be applied during initial install.”

Now you can start the installation

. When you’re finished you should be able to see the Updated number of the SharePoint version on Central Administration which indicates that service pack 1 and CU are installed. Cool:)
